It has certainly been a strange month already! It started out with me getting sick on Halloween night. We went to Friendly's to celebrate Nicholas' 4th birthday with family. Nicholas hadn't been feeling well. Unfortunately, it is hard to tell with Nick because he can't really tell you what is wrong! It is a guessing game. But, being the mean mommy that I am, we went out anyway! I should have know something was wrong....Nick didn't eat anything and I wasn't interested in my food either. I kinda just started at it, wondering what I should do with it! I didn't even eat my sundae!! We took the kids trick or treating in the mall. They really enjoyed it. We were surprised at how many people were there! Even adults. I am not a fan of Halloween so I try to do as little as possible. And I did!! Jon and Sami spent the night with my parents so after I got Nick and Steven to bed, I went to bed. That is when it got worse. I started getting achy and feeling terrible. Thankfully, the achiness went away rather quickly. Then I just felt awful! I could still somewhat function and Jason was able to do some work at home to help out with things. We did end up taking Nick to the doctor because he was running a fever, but nothing seemed to be wrong. But Nick and Jon were able to get the H1N1 vaccine. So it all worked out. I am also thankful for such caring nurses....they will always tell me I should not come into the office because there is so much sickness! Again, thankfully, Jason could be around to take Nick in. In the meantime, Jonathan decided to get sick also! He has been sick off and on. Now just stuck with congestion and cough. He had a fever for a couple days. He is now at my parents for a couple days...getting some much needed rest! Hard sharing a room with 2 younger siblings! Jon can follow his grandpa aroundd while he tries to get some pipe in the ground for the water hook up. He should have fun! Steven has been suffering some congestion also. He went to bed this afternoon at 330pm and has been asleep since....sound asleep! Probably should have woke him up, but he looked content. Sami has, amazingly, stayed healthy so far. Hopefully, it will stay that way!
I had a parent/teacher conference with Nick's teacher today. No complaints! He is doing extremely well. He has a smaller class this year, about 6 kids. And no children with behavioral problems so the teacher can really focus on giving Nick the attention he needs. He is learning so much! His communication in the last couple months has increased. He can say some simple phrases.."go for a rids?" or "go lay down, Duke!". Wonderful to hear! Some things are still a guessing game, but we won't give up. He is eligible to start kindergarten. I don't feel he is ready. So please pray for us as we meet with the distrct to discuss the next step. I am very leary of sending this little child out in the big, bad world! My heart breaks and I just want to cry! I know he is in the Lord's hands.
We have managed to complete 9 weeks of school. This week Sami started learning to read. It is amazing to see how far she's come...learning her letters and sounds. Most of the time she just wants to color, draw or make something! This evening she got out the wipe board and was writing all these letters on it and asking me what they were. During classtime, I can't get her to do that! Jonathan has been thriving. He is a wealth of information and now that he reads.....well there is no end! He reads extremely well for a second grader. He says he taught himself! He reads books well beyond his age. And he is still full of questions. He still had 4 chickens left and is looking to get some more next year. Of course, he also wants a pheasant, turkey, etc.
Steven...is an engima! No one can figure that child out! Let alone who he looks like. He is like a little munchkin, a mini me, of my father! He is a happy, delightful child. A joy to everyone he meets. With Steven and Nick together....well, people are always stopping to say how cute they are! He is quite the chatterbox, too. Takes after Sami! She talks non stop!
So, here were quickly approaching the holidays in chaos! Not really sure what is going on, but just trying to keep going. But that is the norm around here and I wouldn't have it any other way! God has certainly blessed us!
